Established in 2015, Twisted Tine Outfitters has become Western Colorado’s foremost resource for hunts, with quality accommodations, on both private and public lands, for elk, mule deer, moose and desert bighorn sheep. Our team members and guides aim to build long lasting friendships and help hunters fully fulfill their hunt-of-a-lifetime.

TROY HAWKINS-OWNER
Troy Hawkins built his life around the outdoors and a deep respect for big game hunting. He began guiding deer and elk hunts at just 16 years old, gaining early experience working closely with hunters and learning what makes a truly memorable hunt. At 18, Troy opened his own taxidermy studio, a business he still operates today. Years of working with trophy animals and dedicated hunters gave him a unique understanding of wildlife, trophy quality, and what hunters value most when they pursue a once-in-a-lifetime animal. In 2018, Troy joined Twisted Tine Outfitters, bringing his lifelong passion for elk and his extensive experience in the hunting industry. Since then, he has dedicated himself to building a premium hunting operation focused on quality animals, responsible herd management, and an unforgettable hunting experience. Troy has hunted across the country and internationally, constantly learning from different operations and bringing new ideas back to improve his own program. His goal has always been simple: create the kind of hunt he would want to go on himself. Today, the lifestyle he built revolves around family and the outdoors. His children are growing up immersed in hunting and ranch life, and his supportive wife stands beside him as an important part of the journey. For Troy, hunting isn’t just a business—it’s a way of life rooted in tradition, family, and a lifelong pursuit of great bulls.
Mike Cole - Lead Guide
Mike grew up in the mountains of Colorado, where hunting isn’t just a season — it’s a way of life. I’ve been hunting for as long as I can remember, learning the land, the wildlife, and the responsibility that comes with both from an early age in western Colorado. Today, I guide for all native big game species in Colorado, including deer, elk, black bear, and mountain lion. From high alpine basins to dark timber and sage country, I know this terrain because I was raised in it. This isn’t just where I work — it’s home. Over the years, I’ve hunted extensively across the world, gaining experience in different terrains, climates, and cultures. That global experience sharpened my skills, but the mountains of Colorado will always be where my heart is. I’ve also had the privilege of guiding alongside respected outfitters and helping many hunters have successful, memorable seasons. My guiding style is family-oriented, welcoming, and fun — but when it’s time to work, we work hard. I believe in ethical hunting, strong preparation, and creating an experience that’s about more than just the harvest. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter chasing your next trophy or introducing your child to their first hunt, I’m committed to making it safe, rewarding, and unforgettable. When you hunt with me, you’re not just booking a guide — you’re stepping into a genuine Colorado hunting experience rooted in tradition, respect for wildlife, and a love for the outdoors. Jim - Head Chef
From fishing the high Sierras to hunting the Western Slope, he has always enjoyed spending time outdoors and embracing the lifestyle that comes with it, especially a nice Cigar or neat whiskey in the evening. When he’s not outside, you’ll likely find him in the kitchen or behind the grill, another place where his passion really shows. Whether he’s barbecuing for friends and family or preparing time-honored recipes passed down from his grandmother, he firmly believes no one should ever leave his table hungry. After retiring from the telecommunications industry in 2020, he and his wife made their home in the town of Mesa, where he continues to enjoy the outdoors, great food, and the community around him.
